Skavengerz is a new type of experience, and we understand that can be a little confusing. A Quest is an event, which is sponsored by a brand, company, celebrity, influencer, athlete, or another third-party ("Partners"). A quests consists of a series of tasks that must be completed in order to qualify to win a prize. Tasks may consist of solving riddles, solving puzzles, answering trivia, finding "easter eggs" or hidden items in media (e.g. videos, photos, news, social media, etc), researching our partner, going to real-world locations, interacting directly with our partners, posting on social media, or other types of tasks.
Skavengerz is a different type of experience, which is loosely based on the idea of a virtual scavenger hunt. Some quests may require local, state, regional, national, or even international travel to complete tasks. Whether a quest requires travel is determined by our partners. In such cases, you usually have to travel to either a specific location of special significance to our partner, or any of a variety of locations that are associated with that partner (e.g. stores, dealerships, attractions). Once there, you will be prompted on your device about what to do. No special equipment, needs, or items other than your mobile phone is required to complete tasks at a location.
As a participant begins a task, their timer will begin. We log the time that elapses between when you first begin a task and when you complete it. At the end of each task, you will be given the option to immediately start the next one, or you may take a break. Participants do not accrue time between tasks. The winner is NOT who finishes the quest first. The participant who completes the most main quest tasks (side quests do not count) with the lowest amount of cumulative time, wins. Here is an example:
Tina joins a quest at 12:00pm. She takes 5 minutes to browse the prizes screen and leaderboard. At exactly 12:05, she starts Task 1 and receives her clue, which is a riddle. It's hard for her to solve, as riddles tend to be, and it takes her until exactly 12:35pm to figure out and enter the correct answer. Her total time recorded is 30 minutes, or 00:30:00. Tina then has to go pick up her kids from school and run some errands, which take exactly 3 hours. After that, she starts Task 2, which is a trivia question. Tina doesn't know the answer, so she takes some time to scour the internet looking for the answer. After 12 minutes and 12 seconds she finds it, and correctly enters the answer. Her new total time so far is 42 minutes and 12 seconds, represented as 00:42:12. Over time, Tina finishes all the tasks the same day she started the quest in a total of 3 hours, 49 minutes, and 11 seconds, represented as 03:49:11. That is her final time.
The method for determining a winner is simple. As a participant begins a task, they are told that once they receive the task's clue, their timer will begin. We log the time that elapses between when you first begin a task and when you complete it. At the end of each task, you will be given the option to immediately start the next one, or you may take a break. Participants do not accrue time between tasks. Steve, another participant, starts the same day, also at 12:00pm. As a college student, he doesn't have a lot of time to dedicate to the quest, so it takes him a whole week to complete the quest. However, Steve is more familiar with the Partner, so he is able to accomplish the quest in only 2 hours, 17 minutes, and 54 seconds, represented as 02:17:54.
The winner, out of these two participants, would be Steve because he had the least total time to finish all the tasks.
In this example, we see that Steve wins the quest, even though Tina finished first, because Steve had a lower total amount of time.
Bonus Tasks are additional tasks that are not required to complete the main Quest. These mini events usually comprise of a single task which must be completed within an allotted time period. Bonus Tasks may offer a variety of rewards to those who complete them, such as coins, special offers, or unique swag. Prizes are determined by our partners who are sponsoring the task.
Quests can vary in length, as determined by our partners. We have employed a team of experts to help estimate the difficulty and time involved in completing tasks. Before a quest begins, we will present our best estimate on how long a quest should take the average participant. As participants complete the quest, the average time will be updated to give a better estimate. Bonus Tasks, if applicable, are not counted as part of the time estimates as they are optional.
There are a variety of factors that come into play when determining how long a task may take. Tasks may consist of solving riddles, solving puzzles, answering trivia, finding "easter eggs" or hidden items in media (e.g. videos, photos, news, social media, etc), researching our partner, going to real-world locations, interacting directly with our partners, posting on social media, or other types of activities.
The time to complete these tasks depends largely on your own familiarity with the partner, your research skills, your social media engagement, and your ability to solve riddles. Participants are allowed to discuss the tasks with their friends, family, peers to try to complete tasks faster, as long as they are not also players. You are free to use any website of your choosing in this, but please be aware that cheating (such as posting answers online, coordinating with other players, sending your device to another individual, taking screenshots, etc) is strictly prohibited and may result in suspension without refund.
In some cases, as determined by our partners, tasks may require travel. If a quest requires travel, you will be notified of it prior to purchasing (after all, who wants to have THAT surprise sprung on them?). If travel is required, we make our best efforts to try to minimize the cost and impact. Please note that travel, and everything that is part of that, are at the participant's choice and expense, and Skavengerz and our partners are not liable for any expenses, harm or accident, or anything else that may occur during travel. Please consult the terms of use for more information.
The ranking on the leaderboard is organized in two ways:
First, individuals who have completed the most tasks are always going to be at the top, because they have completed more of the quest.
Second, individuals who have completed the same number of tasks are ordered by the total amount of accumulated time it took them to finish those tasks. Remember, the clock stops between tasks, so this is the time that it has taken them to complete each task, along with any time-based hint penalties that may have accrued.
For example, if Sarah has completed 6 tasks in 30 total minutes and John has completed 4 tasks in 20 minutes, Sarah will rank higher on the board because she has completed more tasks.
Another example, Craig and Steve both completed 6 tasks. Craig finished in 3 hours and 30 minutes, but in doing so chose to sacrifice time (instead of coins) to buy a hint, which made his total time 4 hours and 30 minutes. Steve finished his tasks in 4 hours, but incurred no time penalties. Steve would be higher on the leaderboard than Craig.
Please note that the time that is displayed for a user will always reflect their total time for that task, including any penalties accrued.
With Skavengerz, every participant gets something with a retail value greater than or equal to their participation fee. For example, the quest may cost $50, but the individual will be given $50 worth of swag (e.g. digital or physical goods, offers, or other items.)
There are 2 ways to see if you are a winner for larger prizes.
First, you can check out the leaderboards screen for your quest. You will be able to see your own time, and who the top 3 winners are. Depending on the quest, there may be multiple winners, for example:
Grand Prize - Typically a single individual wins
Second place - This could be the individual with the second fastest time, or a group of individuals (e.g. the top 10) with quickest times.
Third Place - The next group or individual, and so on.
Additionally, all winners will be notified via email once the quest is over. Please keep in mind that other participants may complete quests faster than you at any time until the quest is over. It is the responsibility of the user to make sure their profile information is complete and accurate. Skavengerz and our partners are not responsible for failure to deliver a prize as a result of incomplete or inaccurate profile information.
If our partner decides to make this option available, the answer is yes. Not all partners choose to make this option available. If you are unsatisfied with your final time, or find your assigned lists of tasks too difficult, you may start over with a different set of tasks for an additional fee. You will be assigned a completely different set of tasks, so your prior knowledge gained by completing previous tasks will not be helpful.
Typically the restart fee is 50% of the original participation fee, but you will be prompted with the exact amount for your particular quest prior to purchase.
At Skavengerz, we take the integrity of our product, our quests, and our community seriously. In order to help ensure the most even playing field for all players, we have a strict anti-cheating policy. We monitor social feeds, internet sites, and user groups for any cheating. We also have a variety of different tasks for each quest, and the chances of 2 people getting the exact tasks is unlikely, yet we use advanced psychometrics to ensure equality in the level of difficulty between each participants assigned tasks. We employ a number of other anti-cheating monitoring and prevention tools, and if we catch someone cheating their account may be suspended without refund.
Participation fee enables us to develop the technology to offer this virtual experience and offer dozens of prizes, including legendary experiences with popular brands, celebrities, influencers, and athletes. It is not a raffle or sweepstakes where the winner is chosen by random selection. Literally everyone who enters will immediately receive equal or greater value than the entry fee, which offsets the cost. You can’t go wrong.
Coins are used for purchasing different methods to help you progress through a quest. Coins have no bearing on your leaderboard rank or your chances of winning, except that they enable you to buy certain advantages. Coins may also be used to purchase Skavengerz merchandise in our store (coming soon).
For example, you may spend coins to purchase hints for various tasks. Each task will have hints available to help you complete it sooner. It's up to you whether you wish to spend coins for that.
Additionally, you may purchase Power-ups (coming soon) which include discounted hint packs, radar, time machines, teleporters, and a variety of other tools that give players a significant advantage. It's worth experimenting with the different Power-ups and your coins to see how they can best help your individual playing style.
Please note that coins are non-transferrable. Players must earn them for themselves. We believe in democratizing access to legendary prizes for everyone, not just the rich. All coins must be earned through completing tasks in normal Quests, Daily Challenges, or Side Quests.
They can only be earned.
Coins can be earned in a variety of ways. You can earn coins by completing tasks, and each quest you finish gives you bonus coins. Additionally, you can earn coins by completing Side Quests or Daily Challenges. Finally, you can earn coins by Referring a Friend (coming soon).

Generally speaking, coins can be used at any time, depending on how you wish to use them. For example, certain Power-ups (coming soon) can be purchased ahead of time, but only used for in-progress quests. Once a quest is completed, you are unable to use any Power-ups to lower your time. It is recommended to plan ahead of time how and when you wish to use your coins. It is also recommended to complete as many Daily Challenges and Side Quests as possible to maximize how many coins you can earn.
If you cancel your quest or get a refund for whatever reason, you will lose all coins that you have accrued via that quest. We do this as an anti-cheating measure, and also so that people do not abuse the coin system.

YES! All coins you earn will be kept in your profile until you spend them. That means that unspent coins in a quest will roll over for you to use on another quest you join, or to use in our Power-ups or merchandise store (both coming soon).
Please note that the most powerful Power-ups are very expensive, because they are so powerful. Some may save you hours, if not days of time.
